Fibroid Summit 2008: Live Surgeries, Latest Fibroid Care

The Cleveland Clinic will be hosting the Fibroid Summit 2008, inviting all OB/GYNs and Radiologists to learn more on the latest care techniques September 25-27, 2008.

The conference, being held at the InterContinental Hotel and Bank of America Conference Center, will not only offer presentations and discussions on symptomatic fibroid care for women, but it will introduce live video lectures on:

  • Uterine Fibroid Embolization
  • Robotic Laparoscopic Myomectomy
  • Post UFE Rounding and Pain Management
  • Hysreroscopic Myomectomy.

The video lectures will be moderated and discussed by Dr. Linda Bradley, vice chairperson, OB/Gyn and Women's health Institute and director, Center for Menstrual Disorders, Fibroids, Hysteroscopic Services Cleveland Clinic and Dr. James Newman, medical director, Interventional Radiology Cleveland Clinic Health System eastern Region.
Other key topic presentations will include:

  • Clinical indications and contraindications for uterine fibroid embolization
  • Increasing patient outcomes in women undergoing operative hysteroscopic procedures
  • Fibroid uterus: Which imaging techniques to consider
  • Critical management strategies for improving outcomes from uterine fibroid embolization

The goals of the conference are every participant, after completing this learning activity, will be able to do the following:

  • Analyze the clinical trial findings, outcomes data, and evidence-based guidelines supporting the use of UFE for treating symptomatic uterine fibroids.
  • Discuss the patient assessment procedures for identifying the most appropriate candidates for UFE; describe findings that would disqualify a woman from undergoing UFE.
  • Compare and contrast the risks and benefits associated with minimally invasive uterine fibroid therapies and surgical interventions for fibroid treatment.
  • Demonstrate the technical procedures for performing a uterine fibroid embolization.
  • Interpret the latest data from clinical trials of MR-guided focused ultrasound therapy.
  • Formulate the appropriate triage of patients who would benefit from operative hysteroscopic myomectomy.
  • Discuss appropriate patient selection criteria for laparoscopic myomectomies and surgical techniques to improve patient outcome.
